Description : | Perennial herb or undershrub, 0.5-2 m tall. Stem, petiole and pedicel clammy pubescent and usually long, dense simple, spreading hairy. Leaves with 3-15 cm long petiole; stipules 5-10 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad, falcate, lanceolate, eventually reflexed; blade 4-18 cm long and broad, densely stellate, glutinous hairy on both sides mixed with simple hairs, more so on the nerves beneath, usually broadly ovate or ovate, cordate at base, acute to acuminate at apex, crenulate-dentate or serrate, yellowish, yellowish green to green. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicel 1.5-3 cm and in fruit up to 4 cm long, articulate above the middle. Calyx 6-9 mm long, in fruit up to 12 mm, usually fused to the middle; lobes ovate, acuminate-cuspidate, glutinous, simple and stellate pubescent without, sericeous within. Corolla 3-3.5 cm across, orange-yellow yellow; petals ± 1.5 cm long and 1 cm broad, densely simple hairy, occasionally stellate on the covering margin, more towards apex, broadly obovate, claw ciliate. Staminal coloumn 5-8 mm long, stellate pubescent at the base. it 10-13 mm long, 1.5-2 cm across, truncate, stellate pubescent; mericarps 27 (-30), acute at the back, oblong 10-12 mm long, 6-8 mm broad. Seed 2-3 per mericarp, reniform, 2-2.5 mm across, with minute shining, stellate hairs, sometimes more so at the hilum, brown. | |||||||||||||
Curated Medicinal Use / Activity : | The plant (part not specified) is used to ease childbirth and to expel the placenta. The plant is used as a poultice to ease the pain of kidney gravel and is often mixed with glutinous rice and applied to ulcers. The roots are anti-pyretic and also used in the treatment of coughs and toothache. The leaves or flowers are applied to abscesses. | |||||||||||||
