What is Melghat?
Melghat means "meeting of ghats" region lies in the south-western Satpura mountain ranges in compact block of Amravati district in the state Maharashtra, India and it is best known for Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR). Melghat region, has a unique ecological niche and conserved forest region in Maharashtra state of India.
What is Melghat Flora?
Over the period, many forest officers, botanists and researchers explore the Melghat region (previously known as Central Provinces and Berar) and documented Melghat Flora.
Pioneering work of identifying and describing varied floristic of the Central Provinces and Berar was done by Witt (1916) and thereafter by Patel RI (1968).
The first exhaustive work was published vide Technical Bulletin No 1, a document named “Flora of Melghat Tiger Reserve”, which described 647 naturalized species belonging to 398 genera of 97 families.
Further addition in this bio divers list was done vide Technical bulletin No. VII named as “Additions to the Flora of Melghat”. Their work continued for one and half year has resulted in addition of 67 species to the earlier reports of Angiosperms. Further, scientists from the Botanical Survey of India Western Region, Pune did study on the flora of Melghat and added 58 species.
Recently “Checklist of Flora of Melghat: 2018-19” enlists 117 families, 547 genera and 1008 species, more than 550 species were reported for ethnobotanical and pharmacological values.
What is Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb)?
Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb) is curated data from Published Reports / Bulatins / Books / Article / Reviews etc. While searching and mining each plant records we recorded the Melghat's Flora's Serial No., Name of Plant, Synonym, Plant Category, Plant Common Name, Plant Family, Description, Plant Location (in Melghat), Plant's Current Status, Classification, Medicinal Use / Activity, Plant's Active Compounds, and cross References.

Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb) is available publicly via Internet at http://mpdb.co.in/ and in starts up, the Main Application Window appears with several different panes like Menu bar, Search Bar, Introduction, Database statistics and RED LIST CATEGORY PLANTS IN MPdb.
To start let us search for some data in the Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb) using search box.

The MPdb provide, users these following ways to either (any one): a) Search by “Botanical Name”, b) Search by “Plant's Common Name”, OR c) Search by "Plant Family"
You can choose among this three option for which is suited for your search keywords accordingly.
This search option is facilitates with auto-search and auto-suggest query for user.
Let us now search for the plant by Plant's Common Name as "Neem" in the Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb). To do this, follow the steps below:
- In first textbox just put the keyword "Neem", auto-suggest will helps you out to select the particular option of intrest.
- Select the second option seach by "Plant's Common Name", and
- Press the Enter key or click the "Search the databank" button below.
A query returns a tabular output which gives the list of all entries in the searched category. From this table user can choose any particular entry by clicking on the respective "MPdb ID" OR "Record Name"
Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb) individual records consist of following impotant information for each record.
- Unique MPdb id and Plant Botanical Name
- MPdb basic information for record
- Plant Classification
- Plant's common namd and Synonyms (if any)
- Plant description, Medicinal uses, Phytochemicals.
- Plant cross reference etc.
Melghat Plant Data Bank (MPdb) also provide BROWSE facility to the user to get important record information on single click in same frame. LIKE
- Melghat Flora (user can sort them alphabatically)
- MPdb record count catogory wise
- MPdb medicinal record count catogory wise
- MPdb family wise record
- MPdb ailments / disease wise record etc.
Interactive MPdb dashboard gives you graphical user friendly interface to user interaction available at http://mpdb.co.in/dashboard/.
These summarises, the MPdb total records, genus, plant families, category, medicinal and non-medicinal records count information about the MPdb database.
Melghat Plant databank (MPdb) is first attempt to review all the past floristic documents, medicinal plants and digitize the Melghat Flora. This curated database contains complied information about 1028 plants from 139 plant families and 537 genera. Curated medicinal plants information gathered 660 medicinal species records from 128 plant families and 421 genera in MPdb for Melghat Flora. Each plants record are reviewed and recorded with respective plants name, synonyms, common names, category, family, classification, location (in Melghat), current status, more than 9000 records for medicinal uses for more than 140 diseases, reported phytochemicals and published cross references. MPdb will serve as a key information resource for students, researchers and aboriginal communities to explore Melghat Flora for better applied prospects in herbal drug research.
