Description : Aquatic or amphibious, semisucculent erect herbs; roots spongy white. Basal leaves decussate, 1.5-2 x 0.5-0.8 cm, oblong, base and apex acute, fleshy, basally 3-nerved, sessile, decurrent on stem; upper ones reduced. Flowers axillary, in decussate pairs, lower ones subsessile, upper ones pedicellate; bracts linear; pedicels 6-12 mm long, filiform. Calyx-lobes 5, 1-1.5 mm long, obtuse. Corolla bluish-pink, c. 5 mm across, tube c. 5 mm long; lobes 5, upper lip covering the lower lip in bud. Stamens 2, included; anthers 2-celled, lobes unequal, bearded. Ovary c. 1 mm, globose; stigma 2-lamellate. Capsule 2-3 mm across, globose, on erect pedicel. Seeds numerous, minute, pitted, blackish brown.
