A grass with culms erect, round, smooth. Leaves : Bifarious
Inflorescence and Flowers :
Spikelets, numerous, panicled.
Panicle erect, oblong, composed of many verticilled, expanding, round, sessile, linear spikes. Spikelets imbricated in two rows on the underside of the spikes.
Calyx from 8-12 flowered, corol-like.
Corol, exterior valve ending in a long dagger, inner valve membranaceous.
Fruit : Seeds oblong, wrinkled, arilled.
